What are some good laptop qualities?

09 Jun

I want to buy myself a laptop because I don’t like having my computer in my room and I want to be able to move around as I use it a lot.
Anyway, I plan on using this to check my email, facebook and instant message. I will also probably use it to type documents and listen to music. I would like something that has a CD disk drive and I want to be able to have enough memory to install programs that I may need.
I want it to be easily compatible with the internet, and would prefer that has Windows Vista.
I also want it to be thin, but have a large screen (what size is considered large, medium or small?), I want it to be very easy to carry around.
I want to spend no more than 700 or 800 dollars.
What is a good brand? How much memory should it have? What are some questions I should be asking myself before I buy and do you suggest any laptops?

05 Jun

Well, I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 (green) I got it about i would say 8 months ago, but I don’t really like it anymore.. i wanna get a new one.. so i just wanted some good recommendations on laptops.. i want a laptop not too big.. but not too small a normal size… i want it to be fast.. for internet, games, schoolwork, music, etc. what i had in mind were an apple macbook the very thin one.. it’s about $1500 or an HP that costs about $850 so i really don’t care about the price i just want a laptop that is worth it.. and that never crashes down with viruses or breaks easily.. well all help would be appreciated…

what is a good laptop that is good quality?

05 Jun

-Not too expensive
- has to come in shiny white
- thin
-light weight.

the most important thing it has to have is that it functions well and is WHITE…
if it has a webcam built in that would be GREAT!
just for an everyday at home use…

Is a notebook with AMD Athlon Neo X2 L335 good for programming?

01 Jun

I need an ultra-lightweight notebook the weighs less than 1.5 kg (around 3.3 lbs). I will use it for running software for programming, such as Visual Studio, SQL Server, Oracle, etc. What I have in mind is MSI Wind U230 with AMD Athlon Neo X2 L335 (1.6 GHz, 512 MB cache, 2 cores). I know this processor is not a performer, but for my need, is buying a notebook with this processor a big mistake?

I am looking for a laptop mostly used for school and email, editing pictures and I also will be downloading music on it (which i know puts me at risk for some viruses). So I’d buy the norton anti-virus for the next years(is this sufficient enough for my protection). I plan on having it for 4-5 years at least!, I plan on getting the best buy Black-tie warranty for another $180. It is on sale for $399 at best buy. Please tell me any suggestions or pointers you have! or other reccomendations. I’ve never thought as gateway as being a good brand, so i am really unsure, but i also don’t know a whole lot about computers. Is the 4gb of ram worth the extra money? or is 3gb plenty of room for me, and my computer still not be slow?

Thank you =]

Are Acer laptops any good?

31 May

Don’t bother recommending me any other brands.

Specifically I am speaking of this one… http://www.officemax.com/catalog/sku.jsp?productId=prod2850395
It has pretty decent specs for that price. Only thing is I don’t really know much about the reliability of Acers. I’ve looked at it in person for a bit and the only complaint I had was that they keys were the thin, plastic kind.

Any good light laptops out there?

28 May

I am looking for a laptop that is less than 5 pound. It could
be 11″ or so or could be much smaller like one of
the sony model. I also need it to have a slot for the new
smaller express air card from Version. Is there anything
good out there now or coming out?

Are the Intel ULV processors any good?

27 May

I’m looking for a $500 to $600 laptop now and it’s been suggested to me that I get one with a Core i3 processor, one of the newest releases from Intel. I guess getting the latest is always the smart buy when it comes to gadgets, but I’ve also been seeing a lot of new laptops with these Intel Ultra Low Voltage processors. They promise looong battery life, which I don’t think I need anyway, but these are the processors on all the slim, ultralight laptops, a feature that all my traveling calls for.

So my question is, are these Intel ULV processors any good? I don’t know if I should be concerned about the 1.3 GHz speed, considering that the latest laptops now are 2 GHz or higher. Also, the same amount of money can buy me a laptop with an Intel Core i3 processor OR an ultralight laptop with the Intel 1.3 GHz Ultra Low Voltage processor.

Basically, I don’t know if it’s worth sacrificing the processor for portability and vice versa. I use a laptop for web surfing, word processing, watching movies, listening to music, some photoshop work, and some video editing.

Are there any good laptop under $500.00?

26 May

I need something with more then 2 gigs of ram, is lightweight, and has 12 – 14″ screen that is wide screen format and high resolution. 6lbs or under is what I am looking at. Not really looking at getting a netbook or a thin and light though .. just a regular laptop for school use. I do btw, need something with a very lightweight power supply, that is extremely important!!
