This is one of the very thin Toshiba laptops (800 MHz P3). I tried just starting up the laptop with the Operating system in the CD, but it didn’t read it. I’m not a hacker, but I know my way around a computer well enought that I should be able to do something like this without spending $ 150 for the local computer store to do it for me. I want to see if ‘joe on the street’ (me) can install his own operating system and open office and get a laptop running without paying Microsoft what amounts to 3 car payments.

I have a jvc miniDV camcorder that I love. The problem is I wanted to edit the movies on my computer. I don’t know how to get miniDV onto a computer. I don’t think my computer has a firewire port because it’s a thin laptop. Please let me know if this is possible.

I took apart my Dell Inspiron 8200, and I was wondering if i can now keep the lcd screen for any other uses. It has a thin floppy bus on the back which used to connect to the laptop’s video card. Is there any way i can convert this pin connector to RCA or VGA or anything useful?
